Samaritan's Carriage provides several different volunteer opportunities: Be a Contributor . We receive no government funding and rely solely on God’s blessings by way of generous contributions. We are not a part of the charitable fund raising grist mill. We will keep you informed about the ministry but you will not be receiving requests for donations.
Volunteers join a vibrant ministry team that is helping to provide a blessing for those in need of a blessing. Volunteers may participate as frequently (or infrequently) as desired; most volunteer monthly (or less). The time commitment is approximately 5 hours (9:30 am to 2:30 pm) per outing. A brief training is provided, to ensure safety for each of our guests and volunteers. Samaritan’s Carriage provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and work with other Christian volunteers. Outings are typically not scheduled between December 15 and February 15, and are cancelled if forecasts indicate temperatures below 20º or above 90º (F). Lunch at a local restaurant is provided on each outing, as well as admission to the attraction being visited.
Spend one-on-one time with one of the guests. Take charge of pushing their wheelchair throughout the day, and assisting them at lunchtime.
Drivers must have excellent driving records and a valid license. It is not required that you have a CDL or even a chauffeur license. The driver is the team leader of the outing. You will be in charge of boarding, transporting, and de-boarding the bus. Securing the wheelchairs is of utmost importance and the safety of our guests and volunteer crew is imperative.
It is our conviction that in the long run a ministry cannot be a Kingdom work, where God is experienced and glorified, without prayer as the evident and controlling force. Consequently, we diligently seek intercessors who will commit themselves to pray regularly for the ministry. We agree to send such committed partners a prayer update letter quarterly, suggesting reasons for thanksgiving, for petitions, for perceived needs.
Volunteer to maintain service records. Keep the bus clean and ready for outings. Do minimal service, refuel the bus, and recommend service and repair that requires professional service.
